Show Your @UCalgaryEduc Pride!

WSE staff, friends and alum called on to support Werklund School students for UCalgary Giving Day though special named scholarship

Giving Day is here and the Werklund School of Education is stepping up to the challenge.

In celebration of UCalgary’s 50th anniversary, Giving Day, a fundraising event focused on supporting students through scholarships and awards, will run for 50 hours with the goal of raising funds for 50 new scholarships.

At the Werklund School, The E. Lisa Panayotidis Memorial Graduate Scholarship in Interdisciplinary Research has been launched, and during the Giving Day period, gifts to Lisa’s scholarship will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $2500 per donor, providing a great opportunity to double personal impact and to honour the memory of a colleague and friend.

Pledges have already started coming in, and as of this morning more than $5200 has been raised towards Lisa’s memorial award. “While this is wonderful news,” says Werklund School Dean Dennis Sumara, “we still need more support to help grow this award into a sustained endowment.”

“Everyone can participate--and every gift, no matter the size, has an impact,” explains Cecilia de la Rocha, Director of Development for the Werklund School.

“Scholarships give our students financial support so they can tackle their studies with confidence, without the added financial pressures.”

It’s the perfect opportunity to help make a difference in the life of a student and to show your Werklund School pride.”
