SAPL Graduate Course Waiver/Exemption/Advanced Credit Request
Newly admitted and current students sometimes realize that a required course in their degree program is equivalent to one or more courses that they have already completed in a previous degree. Alternatively, a student may have prior and extensive work experience or professional background that directly relates to the course material and content. In these cases, students may be eligible to receive a waiver, an exemption, or advanced credit.
Students admitted directly to the two-year MArch program will have been asked in their offer letter to provide course outlines for each course taken that covers the content of certain Foundation Year courses; This falls under the Course Waiver category.
Information provided within this Course Waiver, Exemption, or Advanced Credit request form will help the instructor(s) to evaluate your request. Please complete everything in full and include the uploads of supplementary documents that are required to support your request. Requests are subject to review and approval by the course instructor(s) and Associate Dean / Graduate Program Director.
DEADLINE TO SUBMIT REQUEST
Students admitted directly to the two-year MArch program must submit their Course Waiver requests with documentation by April 15.
All other requests for Waivers/Exemptions/Advanced Credit and all supplemental documents must be submitted by 4:00pm MST on the first Friday after the start of classes for each respective Fall and Winter semesters.
Please note SAPL Graduate courses offered in the Spring and Summer semesters are not eligible for Waivers/Exemptions/Advanced Credits.
REVIEW PROCESS AND TIMELINE
All the requests will be compiled after the respective term deadlines and the review of your request can take up to two weeks. For the two-year MArch students submitting in April, this process can take longer. Once the review has been completed, we will contact you by email to notify you of the outcome.
Requests received after the deadline may not be able to be processed in time for the University of Calgary course registration deadlines as specified in the Calendar.
