D2L introduces responsible use statement
Riley Brandt, University of Calgary
Beginning July 9, all users of Desire2Learn (D2L) will be required to commit to responsible use of information and communication within the D2L learning environment. The purpose of this statement is to help educate students, faculty and staff on copyright and appropriate use of the communication tools in D2L.
The statement will appear on login page, and users will be required to accept it before being able to use the platform. Users will also have to agree to the statement on an annual basis.
“D2L is a powerful platform for teaching and learning on our campuses, and the commitment to responsible use statement will ensure that all users understand the responsibility that comes with using this tool,” says Dr. Leslie Reid, vice-provost (teaching and learning). “The statement outlines the proper use of information uploaded and downloaded within D2L, to ensure that we continue to comply with national copyright and personal information laws.”
The statement of responsible use will help support and maintain a positive learning and work environment at the University of Calgary. Some highlights include:
- information on the use of email addresses or personal information obtained through the D2L site
- information on the use of communication tools in D2L sites
- direction on Canadian Copyright Law and university policies and agreements pertaining to materials posted and accessed in D2L sites
You can read the statement of responsible use here, or when you log onto D2L on July 9.
