Beverly Sandalack

Professor 

Dr. Beverly Sandalack is a professor and former Associate Dean (Academic) of SAPL. She is also a registered landscape architect and planner specialized in urban design and emphasizing a landscape approach to urbanism. She has been a transformative figure in urban design and landscape architecture, blending her deep connection to the western Canadian landscape with a career dedicated to education, research, and practical application. As co-director of the SAPL Urban Lab, she has contributed a wealth of innovative research towards a better understanding of urban morphology, urban design, cultural landscapes, and parks and open space design. With over 25 years at the University of Calgary, Dr. Sandalack’s contributions have been pivotal in shaping the institution’s approach to urban design and planning, particularly in the context of the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the Canadian prairies. Her design pedagogy revolves around integrating teaching with research, theory and practice, with a strong emphasis on balance between the radical and the practical.
