Robert Levinthal
Assistant Professor
Robert Levinthal is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture. He received a PhD in City Planning, with specializations in Environmental Planning and Landscape and Land Use Design from the University of Pennsylvania. Levinthal is also a graduate of UPenn's MLA program, a Landscape Architecture Foundation Fellow, and a National Olmsted Scholar Finalist.
Before his graduate studies, Levinthal served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Senegal as an Agroforestry Extension Agent.
His research and practice focus on “Mega-eco Projects” - regionally scaled ecological restoration and construction endeavors. In 2022, Levinthal partnered with the Senegalese Department of Water and Forestry, as well as other organizations, in an interdisciplinary, multinational collaboration that he co-leads called the Dakar Green Belt and Blue Green Infrastructure Network. Their initiative won a United Nations Environment Programme competition called Generation Restoration Cities. Levinthal’s drive is to work with communities to develop creative, landscape-based alternatives that simultaneously combat climate change, biodiversity loss, and improve human well-being.
