Professor wins 2023 teaching award

Annual Teaching Excellence Awards presented by UCalgary's Students' Union

Professor Maureen Duffy has been named one of the 2023 winners of a Teaching Excellence Award from the Students' Union.

Since 1984, the SU has invited students to nominate UCalgary instructors who have had a positive impact on their undergraduate learning experience and academic careers. The SU Teaching Excellence Awards is the only campus-wide recognition program for those instructors who make a long-lasting impact on students. 980 nominations were received for the 2023 awards, resulting in 30 winners and 10 honourable mentions.

"I’m deeply honoured that our students would take time out of their busy schedules to do something so gracious," says Maureen. "This means a great deal to me. Our students constantly inspire and teach me, and working with them is the best part of this job. I am excited to see them succeed in our profession going forward."

Winners of the SU Teaching Excellence Award receive an apple award and a framed certificate. In addition, the SU will make a $5,000 donation in recognition of the winners to the Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning.

This is Maureen's third Teaching Excellence Award, which she also won in 2015 and 2017.
