Mauricio Soto-Rubio
Associate Professor
Mauricio Soto-Rubio is an Associate Professor at SAPL who brings a wealth of international experience to his practice and teaching. From his work on advanced tensile fabric structures in Saudi Arabia to leading comprehensive building technology courses in Stuttgart and San Francisco, Soto-Rubio has always sought to find ways in which design and technology can serve our society, especially underrepresented communities. His work focuses on practical, applied research, and using community participation methodologies to address issues of social justice.
Looking ahead, Soto-Rubio envisions a future where architects play a more active role in addressing social, political, and environmental challenges. “I have always been very aware of all the issues related to social justice and inclusivity and so on. I truly believe that architecture can make a difference.” His goal is to keep pushing the conversation forward, even when the solutions may not be immediately clear. As he continues to explore new technologies and engage with communities, his work serves as a reminder of architecture’s potential to create meaningful impact. By combining technical expertise with a deep commitment to social justice, he is helping to shape a better future by empowering people and communities to build with dignity, justice, and mutual respect.
