Innovative Design Mapping Project

How do we communicate to the public the value of design innovation in the built environment?

The Innovative Design Mapping Project is a joint initiative formed by the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at the University of Calgary, the Dean’s Circle, EvolveU, the City of Calgary, and various industry partners involved in design and city building.

The project aims to communicate to the public how design innovation manifests in the built environment through the delivery of an interactive public-accessible, mobile application product.

Are you an architect, urban planner, landscape architect, designer, engineer or design junkie? The Innovative Design Mapping Project invites Calgary designers to participate in the development of the app. Submissions are now open through our online webform.

The Innovative Design Mapping Project team at the University of Calgary welcomes contributors to request an online appointment to receive one-on-one assistance with the submissions process facilitated through Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

Using projects from the 2019 Mayor's Urban Design Awards, we launched the prototype for mobile use. This version of the application includes a map database, gateway word navigation features, and a linked glossary of terms.

When viewing the mobile app on your desktop/laptop, please switch to mobile view on your browser. Here are the listed steps:

1. Open DevTools

- Click <F12> OR

- Click <Ctrl + Shift + I>

2. Select “Toggle Device Toolbar”

- Click <Ctrl + Shift + M>

3. Choose a device (Default “Responsive”)

- Located above the viewer, select “iPhone 6/7/8 Plus” as the simulation device
