SAPLSA Welcome Message

Welcome to the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Student Association (SAPLSA)! I’m Adhara, your SA President, and I’m so happy to welcome all of you to our vibrant community. SAPLSA is your student government, we are here to listen, represent, and support you as you navigate your studies and student life. We care about helping you feel connected, inspired, and part of a community that values creativity and collaboration.

Our mission is to make your experience at SAPL engaging, supportive, and memorable. Together with a wonderful team of volunteers, we work to create spaces where students can share ideas, learn from one another, and build friendships that go beyond studio walls.

Adhara Hernandez, President

Together, the President and Vice Presidents (VPs) create a vision for the year and work towards its realization. The team is responsible for every aspect of the SA, guiding and supporting Directors and Representatives.

President

Adhara is a Master of Landscape Architecture student and the current President of the SAPL Student Association. With a background in Architecture and experience in the hospitality sector, she enjoys exploring how design can enhance everyday experiences and connect people with their surroundings. In her role as President, she guides the association’s overall vision, supports student initiatives, and helps foster a more connected community across programs. You can often find Adhara working in studio or chatting with classmates, always happy to listen, collaborate, or lend a hand when needed.

Vice President Academic

Mehar is in the second year of the Master of Planning program at the University of Calgary. She is serving as Vice President Academic of the SAPL Student Association. In her role as VP Academic she actively coordinates and addresses students concerns and fosters a supportive and responsive academic environment where all student needs are met. She is passionate about the intersections of ecology, planning, and community engagement, and hopes to apply her expertise to advance inclusive, sustainable city-building in Calgary and beyond.

Vice President Internal

Richard St-Jean is an emerging Canadian architect working towards a Master of Architecture at the University of Calgary. Richard’s professional and academic experience is deeply rooted in accessibility, inclusivity, and community-focused design. Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Richard brings to his practice a rich blend of technical expertise and construction knowledge, expressed through his passion for design. The desire to further a social culture at SAPL led Richard to take up his supportive role as the Student Association VP Internal.

Vice President External

Tenaya Lynx is a Master of Landscape Architecture student passionate about fostering meaningful connections between people, place, and environment. As VP External, she is dedicated to strengthening relationships between SAPL students and the broader design community through collaboration, advocacy, and outreach. With a background in geography, ecology, and community engagement, Tenaya brings a creative and grounded approach to leadership. She looks forward to representing student voices and building partnerships that inspire students to connect with local firms and organizations.

Vice President of Operations and Finance

Noah is a second year Master of Planning (MPlan) student. He currently serves as the Vice President of Finance and Operations for the SAPL Student Association and works as a freelance site planner and GIS specialist on the side. Noah is also a certified Environmental Professional in Training (EPt) and had the privilege to spend a 4-month term with Allnorth Consultants Limited in 2023 where he gained experience in land surveying, materials testing, and the Trimble Suite. Noah graduated from Vancouver Island University (VIU) in 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in geography and a minor in global studies.

Each Vice President leads a distinct portfolio - Internal, Academic, External, and Finance - supported by dedicated team members who collaborate to enhance student life, foster academic engagement, build community connections, and manage resources effectively.
