Kevin van der Meer

President

Kevin van der Meer (He/Him) is a Master of Planning student and President of the SAPL Student Association for 2026-2027. With a background in human geography, urban studies, and geographic information systems, his academic and professional interests centre on creating more accessible, equitable, and connected communities. Kevin has worked in regional planning, housing, transportation, public administration, and sustainability, including long-range planning and regional transportation
initiatives with the Regional District of Central Okanagan and research and engagement work with BC Housing's Sustainability Planning team. He is also a teaching fellow at the University of Calgary and serves as Treasurer of the Inlet Community Garden in Port Moody, BC. These experiences have shaped his collaborative and community-focused approach to leadership. As President, Kevin works to support student initiatives, strengthen connections across SAPL's programs, and ensure that students feel heard, represented, and included in the life of the school.

August Hart

VP Academic

August Hart (They/He) is a Master of Landscape Architecture student at SAPL and the VP Academic of the SAPLSA for 2026-2027. They earned a Bachelor of Arts in Design from Hanzehogeschool in the Netherlands, with a focus on animation and illustration design, as well as spatial design. In their role as VP Academic, they make sure that students' voices are being heard and their needs are being met - ensuring clear communication to students and from students, fostering an environment of mutual respect and understanding. They are passionate about design at the intersection of landscape and culture and how we can create spaces that connect us to the natural world and each other.

If you have ideas, concerns, questions, or need someone to talk to, don't hesitate to visit them in the MLA studio space or email them!

Jonas Laurent Henderson

VP Internal

Jonas Laurent Henderson is a Master of Planning student at SAPL and the VP Internal for the SAPLSA (2026-2027). Raised in the Okanagan Valley, he earned a degree in civil engineering from McGill University and moved to Calgary to pursue his masters. Jonas has experience as an architecture and landscape architecture researcher, arts writer, as well as serving three terms as co-chair of the McGill chapter of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES). It is his goal to foster a strong sense of community, support, and fun among SAPL students, by organizing events, and facilitating connections between students across disciplines. Outside of school, you can find Jonas at the cinema, jogging, playing piano, or reading a good history book.

Shannon Hogan

VP External

Shannon Hogan (she/her) is a Master of Planning student with a background in environmental consulting and community engagement. Outside of school, she can usually be found hiking, camping, swimming, snowboarding or cozy at home with her dog and a good book. She believes some of the best learning happens through authentic conversations and hands-on experience. As VP External, she looks forward to connecting SAPL students and the professional community through networking events that foster meaningful relationships, promote collaboration and inspire future careers.

If you see Shannon around studio or on campus, don't hesitate to say hello! She's always happy to chat, listen, or lend a hand.

Harman

VP Finance and Operations

Harman (He/Him) is in his second year of the Master of Planning program and is the Vice President of Finance and Operations. With a background in Economics, he is interested in the intersection of planning, community building, and student engagement. Harman is responsible for supporting the financial and operational needs of the association while helping create opportunities for students across SAPL to connect and get involved. He hopes to make the student experience a little more organized, a little more engaging, and, ideally, a little less stressful.

In his free time, Harman likes to partake in sports, hiking, and squeezing in a quick trip whenever possible. He is always on the lookout for places to hangout and hidden gems. If you see him around SAPL, feel free to say hi! He is always up for a chat, a question, or a good conversation.

Daniel von Meijenfeldt

Treasurer

Daniel von Meijenfeldt (He/Him) is a student in the Master of Planning program and a treasurer for the SAPL Student Association. In this role, he will focus on supporting the administrative side of the Student Association to ensure we're able to efficiently organize events and build a stronger community in SAPL. Originally from the Netherlands, Daniel moved to Alberta with his family at a young age. He has lived all over Western Canada since, chasing new experiences in the outdoors and later pursing a bachelor's in business from the University of British Columbia Okanagan before discovering a deep interest in the way urban planning and design can help improve our lives in so many ways.

Happy to chat anytime about skiing, rock climbing, hiking, camping, music, and riddles.
