Welcome to the Master of Architecture Program

Thank you for considering the Master of Architecture Program at the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape.

Architecture has always operated between certainty and speculation — between what we know and what we imagine. In the Master of Architecture (MArch) program at SAPL, we approach this space with rigorous intention. We don’t offer simple answers or singular methods. Instead, we challenge you to test ideas, confront complexity, and learn through the tensions that shape design research.

You’ll deploy an ever-expanding set of tools and techniques — from material experimentation, data driven and performance-based design, old and new forms of representation to advanced fabrication techniques and immersive design platforms — to explore how architecture can operate responsibly and creatively in the rapidly changing contexts that define our world. Our studios, seminars, and research initiatives connect academic inquiry to the profession, situating design as a critical instrument for environmental, cultural, and technological change.

Since its founding in 1971, the program has cultivated a distinctive culture of design intelligence explored across disciplines and modalities. Here at SAPL, you’ll work alongside a diverse community of students and faculty whose perspectives span continents, disciplines, and scales of practice.

We expect you to approach this work with curiosity and discipline — to take risks, learn from failure, and bring sharp attention to the social, ecological, and material consequences of design. In return, you’ll gain the agility and critical insight that define the best architects of your generation.

Welcome to a program that values experimentation over assurance and leadership over platitudes. I look forward to seeing how you will contribute to — and expand — the evolving conversation about what architecture becomes.

Best,
