Dr. Tolulope Sajobi

The Cumming School of Medicine (CSM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tolulope Sajobi, PhD, as the head of the Department of Community Health Sciences. The appointment took effect Jan. 1.

As we welcome Dr. Sajobi, we’d also like to extend thanks to Dr. Fiona Clement, PhD’06, for her five years of service in the leadership role.

Dr. Sajobi joined the University of Calgary in 2013 and is now a professor with the departments of Community Health Sciences and Clinical Neurosciences. He is a biostatistical methodologist who holds an undergraduate honours degree in Statistics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, a graduate degree in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Windsor, and a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Saskatchewan.

Dr. Sajobi’s research focuses on novel methodologies for clinical outcome assessment, design and analysis of clinical trials, and risk prediction models for clinical decision support systems. As a reputable methodologist, he provides statistical leadership in study design, analytics and training for numerous research teams in Canada and abroad.

Dr. Sajobi has significantly elevated the quality and methodological rigour of clinical research studies by strengthening the design, analysis and interpretability of research findings. Notably, as a member of the Calgary Stroke Program behind the AcT trial which has revolutionized stroke treatment. The largest acute stroke clinical trial run in Canada, the landmark study confirmed the efficacy of a treatment for acute ischemic stroke with recent government approvals leading to new guidelines for usage worldwide.

Dr. Sajobi also brings his expertise to the Canadian Network for Statistical Training in Trials, where he serves as a co-principal investigator and co-chair of the Mentorship and Experiential Learning Committee. He has served in multiple capacities across UCalgary, including with the CSM Tenure and Promotion Committee and as chair of the Graduate Admissions Committee with the Department of Community Health Sciences. He has been a member of the Provost’s Promotions Review Council, the Presidential Taskforce for EDIA, and was the academic director of Data Research and Strategy in the Provost’s Office.

Dr. Sajobi’s many contributions have been recognized by an Avenue Calgary Top 40 Under 40 Award and the UCalgary Great Supervisor Award, as well as a Mid-Career Research Leader Award and the Lynn McIntyre Outstanding Service Award presented by the O’Brien Institute for Public Health.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Sajobi on his newest appointment with the CSM.

Sincerely,
