Graham Livesey is a Professor and Associate Dean (Academic – Architecture) in the Master of Architecture Program (Faculty of Environmental Design) where he teaches design, architectural history, and urban design theory. He holds a professional BArch degree (1984), a post-professional MArch (1991) in history and theory, both from McGill University (Montreal, Canada). He completed a doctorate in 2013 from the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands; the title of his dissertation is “Assemblage Theory, Ecology and the Legacy of the Early Garden City.” Previously he was the Associate Dean (Academic – Architecture) from 2009-10, Director of the Architecture Program (2000-2006), and was a principal of Down + Livesey Architects (1995-04). With Down + Livesey Architects he worked on a variety of projects including: the Vulcan County Administration Building Expansion, the renovation of the Art Gallery of Calgary, the expansion of the Alberta College of Art & Design, and the design of Discovery House (a second stage women’s shelter). He has served with a wide range of organizations, including: Treasurer of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (2007-2009), Canadian Director of the ACSA (2003-06), and member of the council of the Alberta Association of Architects (1997-00). He is currently the chair of the Council of Canadian University Schools of Architecture (CCUSA). He was an expert advisor on architecture to The Canadian Encyclopedia, editorial advisor to the journal Architecture and Ideas, and Interim Executive Editor of the Journal of Architectural Education (2012-13). He has undertaken research in the areas of modern architecture and contemporary urbanism.
